2020 PG of Hamilton Southeastern tells us her expectations of the July eval period, high school ball, and locking up on defense.

IM: How have you been playing this summer with your HS team so far?

LM: I have been playing hard and improving each day during the June month for HS. I’m playing well in practices and games.

IM: What has been the biggest part of your game you have been trying to work on?

LM: Definitely something I’ve always needed to work on is my decision-making. I’ve transitioned from other positions like the post when I was younger and a shooting guard most of my years to now the PG. So I have been working on, and continuing to work on, my decision-making as the point guard.

IM: You have been a playmaker all spring. Talk about your confidence to make plays on both ends of the floor.

LM: Confidence has to show through with the position I’m in. I know that if I make a play, that can create a shot for my teammate and even myself. When u lock people up that helps your team out too. Making plays on both ends of the floor is what a point guard needs to do.

IM: You are often called on to guard the opposing teams best guard, what goes through your head knowing you have that responsibility every game?

LM: It’s definitely a responsibility but also your job. It feels good to feel depended on. You have to realize that you are going to guard girls like that but also, you need to get ready for it. I know i get called to guard the “good” guards on the floor so I physically get myself ready for it. The mental part of it is already there. I do know that I won’t always be great and lock up every girl because I’m not there yet, but I’m putting in the work to get there.

IM: What are you hoping to accomplish during the July evaluation period?

LM: This July I want to accomplish being a reliable and confident PG. I want to show myself and everyone else what I’m capable of.
