University High School 2020 Foward Lindsey Syrek speaks on elite camps and July evaluation period.
IM: You just got done attending Princeton’s Elite camp. Tell us about that experience?
LS: Going to Princeton’s camp was a really great experience. I got a chance to meet with the coaching staff and get to know them more and see the campus. The camp itself was awesome I felt like I gained a lot from going and I got a sense for the program there.
IM: I know you attended a couple other camps which ones were those?
LS: Wright State and Miami Ohio
IM: While competing in these camps what is your mind-set?
LS: My mindset going into these camps is to have fun and learn something new while I’m there.
IM: You have been hitting the weight room hard this spring and summer, talk about how it has helped your game?
LS: I think it has helped me be more physical down in the post both offensively and defensively and it has helped me finish around the rim better.
IM: Coach Kelvin Scott is really looking forward to getting you guys back on the floor in July.
What are you looking forward to the most next month?
LS: I am looking forward to getting back on the court with the rest of the team. We were getting into a good rhythm the last couple of tournaments so getting back and picking up where we left of is going to make July really fun.
IM: For coaches evaluating you what can you tell him about your game and you as a teammate?
LS: What I could say about my game is that it’s still expanding. I’ve been working on my outside game more as well as improving upon the skills I already have in the post. As a teammate I know that even when I’m not having the best game it’s not an excuse to check out of the game. Every game I need to assess what my role is, if that is to go out and score, fine. If it’s to be the loudest person on the bench, great. The game is about more than just one person so if I have to be on the bench because I’m in foul trouble or something then I know I need to impact the game by hyping up the rest of the team who is on the floor.
IM: If you could meet one person in the world who would it be?
LS: If I could meet one person in the world it would probably be Tamika Catchings. I watched her growing up and she was a great player but also was and still is super active in the community which is super cool that she is using her platform to positively impact others.
